Crawford High Urban Legends…
Truth or Fact?

By Victor Perez
Class of ‘71

West Side Story

Did a former Crawford Colt really perform in the 1961 Academy Award Winning Move Musical WEST SIDE STORY? 39 years ago… in the Fall Semester of 1968 at Crawford High, three different people (of the Class of 1969) on separate occasions told me the same story. They told that a member of the Jets… was in fact a Crawford High Alumnus. Now, it could be that the person identified as a former Colt… wasn’t a Jet, but still a performer in the move.

Here is where the problem lies… not everyone who went to Crawford High… graduated, and depending on when they started school not everyone was accounted for… like transferring into Crawford before the photos and names for the Centaur Year Book were firmed up, or people leaving school in 10th or 11th grade, or that people change their names for professional reasons, or even the fact that not all cast members in the move…West Side Story… were credited for acting and/or singing. So, all I can really say is this that my research into this story finds that this Crawford High Urban Ledged is highly plausible.

Did a former Crawford High
Alumnus really appear as the
Playmate of the month in this
magazine in 1969? Yes, it’s
true! Believe it or not!

Are People Buried on School Grounds?

No there are no bodies buried on the Crawford campus. The confusion comes from years of students seeing two small tomb stones with inscriptions at the south east corner of the 800 Building. The memorial markers lay in repose in the large tree planter surrounded by plants and trees.

From PSA to Print

The life adventure of one former Colt is strange… but true.
Who would could have for seen that a Crawford High Grad
would fly the friendly skies of the PSA smiling jets and end
up on the pages of two separate issues of Playboy Publications.
This Crawford High Alumnus of the Class of 1977 went to San
Diego Mesa College for training, and then end up working as
a flight attendant for the San Diego based Airline Company
of Pacific Southwest Airlines, also known as PSA. Interesting,
but this where the amazing story starts…

This former Colt appeared in a couple of issues of Playboy Magazine Publications, but not as a playmate centerfold.  Her first appearance was in the 1980 May “Stewardesses Pictorial issue” of a Playboy Magazine feature called “Perfect Attendants” Sexy Stewardesses.  Then she appeared again in the 1984 February Playboy Newsstand Special Magazine publication of “Playboy’s Working Women 1988” in the feature called Perfect “Flight” Attendants - A Tribute to Beauty, Brains and Ambition.

This remarkable career then takes an unusual twist and turn leading down the road to being an actress, and finely ending up as the Founder, President and CEO of a “Worldwide Private Jet Charter” out of Van Nuyes California.  Prior to forming the charter service company in January of 1998, this former Colt had over 15 years of experience in the corporate aviation sector as both a charter dispatcher and flight attendant.
