Lost and Found!
1963 Crawford High Class Ring

It was about 30 years ago that Point Loma resident Mrs. Libby Chandler found a Crawford High School Class Ring.  Now, at age 89 she can’t remember if she found it at Harbor Island or Shelter Island in San Diego.  Recently her daughter, Mrs. Sue Benson took note of the little ring her mother had so caringly cherished and protected.  Sue’s mother had always wanted to find the owner, but didn’t know where to start or what to do.  And, Libby had no clue how the current computer technology worked.  So, Sue took it upon herself to pick up her mother’s long put-off quest and began a search to find the owner of the small ring.

Sue, a graduate of Point Loma High School, Class of ’67 began to search the web and came across a notice about the 45th Reunion for the Crawford High Class of ’63 to be held on September 13, 2008 in Mission Valley.  And, from that bit of information, she was able to contact John Fry, Class of ‘62.  John did some research and came up with 2 prospective owners of the lost ring.  The first was Marsha Levine Allen… who wasn’t missing her class ring, and the other was Mary Leiser Galer.  Sad to say, but Mary can’t be found and, according to her ex, has been “missing for years.”  As a result of coming to this dead end, Sue and her mother decided to donate the ring to the Crawford Foundation for safe keeping.  Hopefully some day the archived ring will be returned to its original owner. 

The artifact is a 1963 girl’s Will C. Crawford senior class ring, with the initials “M” and “L” flanking the front of the Crawford crest.  The crest is mounted on mother of pearl and has black enamel accents.  The slightly distorted gold ring is about a 6 ½ in size, and the crest is held in place with 2 small rivets from the back.  Incredibility, this small 45 year old ring is in excellent condition.  The inside of the ring reads: © HERFF-JONES 10K
